Will Blackmon special teams player of the week

After this game breaking punt return the former Hendricken Hawk and BC Eagle has been named special teams player of the week.

Go Willie Beamin

A whole New Season

First off sorry for the non blogging over the past two weeks I have been real busy but I m back and better than ever.

Since I last left you the worst of the worst came true with Brady going down. I was pissed off, I was sad but lets go, this makes the season much more intresting. Every game, quater, down means something. Games are goiing to be gutted out, grinded out. Now the Patriots are UNDERDOGS for the first time in a LONG time. And this makes me excited. Thier backs are against the wall and when that happens with Bill Billicheck and Company, you better watch out.

Matt Cassell- Yes he was horrible in the preseason buttt he didnt ever have his full compliment of starters. Now hes got weapons: Moss, Welker, Morris, Maroney, Waston, Gaffney ect. I like the Matts and the Pats chances.

Morris, Maroney, and Jordan will get thier fair share of carries and itll be intresting to see what creative plays the Pats will draw up.

I see this season very similar to the seasons of Young Tom Bradys career where they pounded the ball, relied on defense and threw under neath patterns. Welker will be key and I know that they will go deep to Moss at least twice a game.

With that all being said the Pats will win the AFC East, No doubt about it. And it starts today against the J-e-t-s sucks sucks sucks.

Pats host CB Deltha Oneal and have high intrest in Ty Law

UPDATE: Pats sign two time pro bowler Deltha O'Neal.....I now doubt they will sign Ty Law but we will see.

When the Pats signed Frenando Bryant and Jason Webster in the off season, they thought that they would be set at the corner back position and at least one of those guys would be plugged in as a starter. But poor preseason and camp play led both of them to be cut. Now the Pats are scrambling for answers.

According to the Globe and NFL Sirus Radio the Pats are hosting former Bronco and Bengal Deltha O'neal. O'neal has 31 career interceptions.

According to ESPN the Pats are also highly interested in our old friend Ty Law. Law would be a great fit for the Pats here. A physical corner who can teach the young CBs a thing or two about this system.

Also the cutting of John Lynch does not seem to be permanent. Multiple sources are saying the Lynch will be back after week one becuase of finacial reasons.

Boston College blanks Kent St. 21-0

The BC Eagles looked sharp in their season opener vs. Kent St.

Rak Attacks from the game:

  • Chris Crane looked composed. He was accurate throughout the game. He also ran the ball very well. Lets see if he can carry those things over to ACC play

  • I came away very impressed with Coach Jags. We learned that he adapts to his players. Last year he put the ball in the air 40 plus times per game because he had a stud in Matt Ryan. This year it looks like BC will be a running team.

  • I also like the new wrinkle that Jags/ Steve Logan (OC) put in with the shot gun read option ala West Virgina that is taking over college football.

  • It was good to see Jeff Smith and Brain Toal back on the field after injuries last year and both played extremely well

  • The secondary was the other question coming into the season and they held Kent State all game long

  • I came away very impressed with True Freshmen Josh Haden. His stats were not eye opening but he was breaking tackles, making nice moves and played with confidence. He will become a BC favorite in NO time.

  • As expected the front 7 looked very good.

  • First ACC action of the year vs GTech Next weekend.

Jamie Silva makes the Cut; Matt Sherry on season ending injury reserve

Former RI high school and Boston College standout Jamie Silva has made the Indanapolis Colts. After being not drafted at all in the NFL draft this past April it seemed as if he was a long shot to make any club. They said he was too small, too slow, too ect. The same thing people said when he was coming out of East Providence High School where Boston College almost passed on him and Indiana was the only other DI school to give him a scholarship.

Reports were that Silva was always around the ball in preseason practice and games as we have seen him in the past HS and College. Congrats to Jamie Silva on being another sucessful player to come out of the Rhode Island High School ranks.

Another RI High School standout, Matt Sherry, has been placed on season ending injury reserve. Sherry missed the last three games with a shoulder injury. Reports from Bengals camp was that Sherry was impressive in blocking and in the passing game. Sherry remains eligible for the practice squad for two years after this also.

Its good to see Rhode Island athletes suceeding in the pro's. On Sundays Ill keep my eye on the Packers with Blackmon and Colts with Silva all season long.

Rhode Island Updates 8/25/2008

  • Rhode Islander Rocco Baldelli has come back to the big leagues and is playing well. He hit his 2nd homerun. He is batting strictly vs lefties and is hitting .308. You can't help but cheer for him.

  • Matt Sherry is in camp with the Bengals and saw game action vs the Packers and played well, making some nice blocks and was thrown to once but the pass was high. He sat out in the second game, I dont know if it was an injury or no playing time.

  • Will Blackmon has been playing consitently well on defense and special teams. He has a 43 yard punt return vs the Broncos. He should have the starting Punt Return spot but has competion in rookie J. Nelson from K-State. Blackmon is also fighting for the nickle spot.

  • Reports from Colts camp is East Providence's Jamie Silva is fighting an up hill battle for a spot but he is flying around the ball and making some big hits. I think with his work ethic and he special teams contributions he will find work in the NFL somewhere
